It’s wonderful to see so many of our local businesses recently recognised at the 2026
North Shore Local Business Awards, with eight Willoughby businesses taking home top
honours in their categories.
As a proud sponsor of this year’s awards, Council congratulates all 87 finalists from
across 11 suburbs, and particularly our local winners. Special congratulations to Alison
Lennard of Philosophy Australia in Willoughby, who was named Business Person of the
Year.
These awards are a great opportunity to recognise the hard work, passion and
commitment of the people behind our local businesses. From long-established
businesses to those just starting out, you play an important role in making our local
centres vibrant and welcoming.
Council is also committed to supporting our local businesses to build for the future.
From October, Council is oQering Business Breakthrough: Your 5-Week Success Plan for
established business owners looking to grow. The five-week program will help you turn
your goals into a clear business plan and 12-month roadmap, with expert guidance from
award-winning business adviser Amanda Warrington and opportunities to connect with
other local business owners. Places are limited to 16 participants, so I encourage
interested business owners to find out more and get involved.
Through our FOGO campaign, food businesses can access free support from the Better
Business Partnership to prepare for new NSW Government requirements. This includes
food waste reviews, advice, staQ training and practical steps to make separating food
waste easier. Businesses can find out more or book a free food waste review.
We’re also inviting the business community to have their say on plans for the Active Way
from Chatswood to St Leonards. The proposal will improve walking and cycling
connections between Chatswood, Artarmon and St Leonards, with upgraded crossings
and footpaths, new parks, street trees and landscaping. I encourage you to find out
more and have your say.
And a reminder that Emerge Festival kicked off on 1 September, with events and
activities continuing until 11 October. The six-week festival is bringing plenty of extra
activity to our area, with many opportunities for businesses to welcome new and
returning customers. I encourage our local businesses to get involved, support one
another and make the most of the increased activity throughout the festival.
