July Update from Federal Member for Bradfield

Friday, 3 July 2026

The conversations I have with Bradfield's business community are among the most valuable I have. Through my conversations with local businesses, I'm constantly reminded of the importance of both practical support and getting the policy settings right.

There are two developments worth keeping on your radar:

Digital Solutions Program: Support Available Now
Eligible small and micro-businesses can now access:
• Up to 5 hours of one-on-one digital coaching
• Free workshops and webinars
• Support on digital marketing, e-commerce, cybersecurity, business software and AI

Why it matters
Many businesses are looking at how digital tools can reduce administration, strengthen cybersecurity, attract customers and improve productivity. This program provides practical support to help businesses make those decisions with confidence.

What to do next
If your business is looking to improve its online presence, explore AI tools, review cyber security practices or expand online sales, I encourage you to investigate whether you're eligible. You can find out more here.

Capital Gains Tax: What Business Owners Should Know
The Government is consulting on proposed capital gains tax reforms. While discussion has focused mainly on housing, the changes will also affect founders, investors and small business owners.

A key issue
Current small business CGT concessions generally apply only to businesses with annual turnover below $2 million. I have called for that threshold to be increased to $10 million, bringing it into line with the ATO's definition of a small business and ensuring growing businesses are not inadvertently excluded. Growing a business and investing in housing are fundamentally different activities, and our tax system needs to recognise that distinction.
Getting policy settings right matters. Small businesses create jobs, drive innovation and underpin our local economy. I'll continue advocating for practical reforms that support investment, entrepreneurship and growth.

As always, I value hearing directly from local business owners and welcome your views on these issues.
