Thank you to everyone who joined our ATO x Chatswood Chamber Small Business Support Session on 11 June 2026.

Despite it being a busy time of year, we were delighted to welcome over 25 attendees in person, along with additional participants joining us online. The evening was engaging and highly interactive, with members actively asking questions, sharing experiences and connecting with one another. It also provided a valuable networking opportunity for local business owners and professionals.

During the session, the ATO team, Liam Brennan and Matthew Walsh, shared practical small business support resources, including:
• Free online resources to strengthen your small business
• Tax Time toolkits for small businesses
• Record keeping and documentation
• GST, deductions and business tax obligations
• Using business money and assets properly
• The ATO app for individuals and sole traders
• eInvoicing and digital invoicing practices
• Payday Super changes from 1 July 2026
• Small business newsletters, alerts and masterclasses

The session also included an engaging Q&A discussion, with questions raised by Serena Zhu, Brenda Chung, Gino Joseph, Janice Yane, Robbie Mattei and Panbo Ye. The discussion explored practical issues faced by small businesses, including the benefits and practical application of eInvoicing, the role of ATO digital tools, ATO support links for businesses, available toolkits, resources and guidance, and tax-related considerations for the 2026–2027 financial year.
Following the ATO presentation, Panbo Ye, Founder and Director of Everglow Prosperity, CFP® and FCPA, built on the compliance foundation with a practical discussion about business owner wealth, structure, cash flow and long-term planning. One of the key messages from the evening was: “Your business is not the destination. Your business is the vehicle. The destination is the life you want to live.”

Panbo also shared a helpful framework on the four stages of business owner wealth growth, which is available in his presentation slides: https://fiti.everglow.au/
1. Income — Make the money
2. Protection — Keep what you build
3. Accumulation — Build wealth outside the business
4. Independence — Make wealth work without you

Members have already been recalling and quoting some of the standout lines from the evening, including: “Profit is an opinion. Cash is a fact.” “Revenue is vanity. Profit is theory. Cash is reality.” “Control everything. Own nothing” — in a legal and well-structured way. “Protection done late is not protection — it’s evidence.” And, “If all your wealth is inside your business, that’s not diversification — that’s concentration risk with a logo.”
These punchlines offer a practical way to check in with yourself and your advisor: are we simply talking about profit and tax, or are we genuinely improving what I keep, protect and grow? Panbo left us with one simple reflection for the week: which stage am I in right now — Income, Protection, Accumulation or Independence — and what is the one next move that will help me progress to the next stage?

Thank you again to Liam Brennan and Matthew Walsh from the ATO team, Panbo Ye from Everglow Prosperity, and all members and guests who attended, asked questions and made the evening so interactive. A special thank you to Everglow Prosperity for generously hosting the session and preparing refreshments for our attendees.
